Community, connection, generosity, and support are core values here! I design greeting cards with these values in mind. I love a funny greeting card now and then, but my heart is for honest and thoughtful messages of hope.
I’ve always been better at expressing my thoughts in writing. Verbal communication can be a struggle for many of us, especially if someone is going through something hard and we don’t have the right words to say at the time. In fact, a card with a thoughtful handwritten message can often be more meaningful for the recipient so they can revisit your encouragement when they need it most.
I still have a box of notes from my friends in middle school (one of whom ended up becoming my sister-in-law!) and a large file of handwritten letters from my husband from our year of long-distance dating, months of Navy boot camp, and deployments scattered throughout our early years. These are the things I treasure most and would grab in a fire!
A few pessimistic people have told me that handwritten cards are dead. I believe the opposite is true! The personal nature of a handwritten note is more powerful and more needed than ever. The greeting card industry is alive and well. Welcome!
Sara Curtis is the founder of Overflow & Co. Based in Durham, NC, Sara lives with her husband of 20 years and their 7 children. She loves connecting with new people and exploring all of the great local food and shops in Durham, but let’s be honest, can also be a bit of a homebody.
Sara’s sewing patterns have been showcased in multiple sewing magazines and craft books, and her pattern designs and illustrations have been licensed by Clothworks (quilting fabric), Greenbox Art + Culture (children’s wall art), Mermaid Straw (drinkware), Minted & Target (greeting cards & stationery).
